Here is where the wood wide web stops being a nice metaphor and becomes a claim the data will not carry. Mother trees, friendship, suckling. Have you read Simard's actual papers? Far more interesting than this, and far more careful.

The dying woman and the chestnut branch outside her window has stayed with me for fifteen years (Aesculus hippocastanum; two blossoms puts it in May). Part two I have never managed to love.

Not one plant is named in the whole novel, not one, and the meadow and the grass and the Sun have to carry the lot. Beautifully controlled, and it left me completely cold, which I suspect is a design feature I don't enjoy.
