middle book syndrome, and I say that as someone who defends middle books. the siege is genuinely great. Vin spends most of it having a feelings crisis. we do not talk about Zane. seven, and the last stretch drags it up there by itself.

heist fantasy done PROPERLY! the flashbacks do the Ocean's Eleven trick where you get the plan after the con. also it is filthy and very funny and then it turns mean and I was not remotely ready. book two is a step down, sorry everyone.

Kvothe is insufferable and the prose is gorgeous and both are true at once. the Chandrian bits are a ten and the university bits are a six and it averages out. we are not getting book three, are we? I have accepted it. mostly.

book three!! the one Priyesh calls bloated. is it bloated? yes. on purpose though, which is a completely different thing. the flashbacks are the best writing in the series. read the last stretch in one sitting and then had to phone somebody.
