Eleven weeks and I understood perhaps 60 percent of it. 1) the dialogues are the reason to read it 2) the formal chapters are the price you pay. Green tabs throughout, so I now have a reading list that'll take two years.

Best when he's one second before the behaviour, worst when he's a million years before it. I abandoned the appendices about forty pages in. Nine green tabs, every one of them on a footnote rather than the main text.

1) The core observation is real and I recognised it immediately from work. 2) The evidence for it is a questionnaire and a pager. It gets a six, and I'd have read a 90-page version of this quite happily.

Two books stapled together. The first is a witness statement and it's unanswerable. The second is a therapy manual from 1946 and I skimmed a good deal of it. Eleven yellow tabs in part one. None at all in part two.

Chapters one to four are a public service. From roughly chapter seven onward I was reading the words and taking in nothing at all, and I don't think that was entirely my fault. I finished out of stubbornness and looked up eight things afterwards.
