Reader’s Note
9 out of 10
Third, first since 2011. There's a note in my copy from that year that just says "boring bit" beside the ants — and I'd like to apologise to the ants. The last book is considerably sadder than I had let myself remember.

The first part, with the boy and the animals, is lovely and I would happily have stayed there. It gets sadder than I was expecting. My wife found me a hardback of it in a shop in Ludlow, which helped.8 out of 10@thebigsleepy

Second go, first since 2015. Half of it has fallen over in replication since — I kept checking chapters against my phone as I read, which is a strange way to spend an evening. The material on how badly we remember pain has held.7 out of 10Thinking, Fast and Slow
