Kind-hearted, and useful on beech and on how a wood holds water. He keeps telling me the trees are friends, are mothers, are talking; and each time he does it I trust the observation a little less. Fine for a beginner. Not for me.

Here is where the wood wide web stops being a nice metaphor and becomes a claim the data will not carry. Mother trees, friendship, suckling. Have you read Simard's actual papers? Far more interesting than this, and far more careful.
